Supervision by a qualified medical professional is necessary to detect and treat weight-related medical conditions. A program overseen by a nurse practitioner or physician assistant who earned a certificate of advanced training in Bariatric Medicine from the ABBM, offers a comprehensive and effective approach to maximizing overall health.

The first step toward earning a certificate of advanced training is to register to take the exam. Download the Policies and Procedures for the Certificate of Advanced Training here.

The exam and resulting medical protocol includes diet, exercise, behavior modification, and when appropriate, medication.

The advanced training certification process involves two steps:
1. Application
2. 300 Question Written Exam
