Physician supervision is necessary to detect and treat weight-related medical conditions. A program supervised by a physician who is a board certified Diplomate of the ABBM and who has completed specialized training in Bariatric Medicine, offers a comprehensive and effective approach to maximizing overall health.

The first step toward becoming ABBM certified is to register to take the exam. Download an application and the Policies and Procedures for Physician Certification here.

Physician certification focuses on treatment protocol that includes diet, exercise, behavior modification, and when appropriate, medication.

The certification process involves three steps:
1. Application
2. 300 Question Written Exam
3. Board Inspection

To learn more about the certification process, visit our FAQ section and be sure to download the Policies and Procedures for Physician Certification.
